The Illusion of the Fight: What If There’s Another Choice?
The Illusion of the Fight: What If There’s Another Choice?
Day 2 of 9 Days, 9 Lines
“The purpose of Access is not to fight this reality.”
Why Do We Love to Fight?
I’m going to be more honest with you than I am with myself.
I love fighting. And if you’re being honest, don’t you?
(Your secret is safe with me.)
I’ve been called a warrior by those closest to me—because I will go to war.
Against circumstances. Against challenges. Against anything life throws my way.
I am immensely resilient when I need to be.
I will be broken into pieces, distraught, completely lose hope…
but I won’t give up.
- I won’t give up in arguments.
- I won’t give up in my rightness.
- I won’t give up my awareness.
- And I won’t give up on what I know.
And yet—what if that’s exactly the trap?
The Hidden Cost of Fighting
Here’s the thing:
When someone is predisposed to fight, then no matter what, their only choice is to fight.
And when fighting becomes your way of existing, you don’t just fight against what’s unjust, unfair, or uncalled for…
You also end up fighting what is good, beautiful, kind, and the generous gifts the universe desires to give you.
What if, by choosing to fight, we unknowingly block the very things we desire?
Breaking Free From the Fight
This was the toughest thing for me to embrace.
I kept remembering Gary’s words:
We have a tendency to fight for or against something because we think those
are the only two choices.
If you eliminate all fight, then you have true choice.
We fight to make the right choice.
We fight to avoid the wrong choice.
So, here’s my invitation to you today:
Ask yourself:
What am I fighting for or against that, if I gave up the fight, would give me choices I never knew I had?
Sit with that. See what shows up.
